Valcambi: the Swiss refinery bringing divisibility to gold bars

A Swiss base in Balerna

Valcambi operates in Balerna, in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Alongside refining, its activities include manufacturing cast and minted bars, precious metal assaying and specialist products.

Its work demonstrates that producing a finished bar involves more than casting metal. Checks on composition, weight and workmanship together determine the final product’s characteristics.

Classic bars for different needs

Valcambi’s range includes both cast and minted bars. Minted versions feature regular shapes and finely finished surfaces, while cast bars have a more distinctive appearance shaped by their manufacturing process.

When buying, consider the specific weight, fineness and price per gram. The manufacturer’s name matters, but it does not replace a comparison of purchase prices and future resale terms.

CombiBar: one unit, smaller pieces

One of Valcambi’s characteristic products is the CombiBar. It consists of a sheet of smaller bars that can be separated along prepared dividing lines.

The purpose is to make it possible to use only part of the purchased metal. You do not need to sell or give away the entire sheet at once.

Unlike Heimerle + Meule’s UnityBars, a CombiBar starts as a connected unit. Once separated, its pieces cannot simply be joined back into the original sheet.

Flexibility comes at a price

Divisibility can be practical, but it is not the only consideration. A CombiBar may carry a higher purchase premium than a conventional bar of the same total weight.

Before buying, compare the price per gram, the size of the individual pieces and the terms for their future resale. The key question is whether you will actually use the ability to separate them gradually.

At Golden House, we will be happy to help you compare classic Valcambi bars and available CombiBar formats according to your plans.
