Real Casa de la Moneda: Spanish tradition in gold and silver
Spain’s Real Casa de la Moneda combines minting heritage with modern precious metal coinage. Alongside commemorative and collector products, it has introduced gold bullion coins featuring Spanish animals. The Iberian lynx and Carthusian horse bring a distinctive Spanish story to the world of gold.
A mint and a security manufacturing institution
Real Casa de la Moneda forms part of FNMT-RCM: Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre – Real Casa de la Moneda.
FNMT was established in 1893 through the merger of the mint and the stamp factory. Its work therefore draws on a tradition of producing money and other products requiring precision and protection against counterfeiting.
The Iberian lynx on investment gold
In 2021, FNMT-RCM introduced its first gold bullion coin featuring the Iberian lynx. The one-ounce issue was made from gold of 999.9/1000 fineness.
The wildlife design is accompanied by a reference to the historic Spanish columnario, the familiar pillar design. The modern coin connects today’s precious metal with a long monetary tradition.
Spanish animals and modern security features
Further issues feature other animals associated with Spain. One example is the Carthusian horse on the 2024 one-tenth-ounce gold coin.
Selected issues also use a quadruple latent image. Security features, minting quality and mintage should nevertheless be checked for the specific release.
Bullion can also appeal to collectors
The term bullion does not rule out a limited mintage or a more substantial manufacturing premium. Collector interest can also influence the price of less common issues.
