CNB 5,000 Kč commemorative banknote with an overprint

On Tuesday 22 September 2026, the Czech National Bank (ČNB) issued a 5,000 Kč banknote of the 2023 series featuring a special overprint. The issue commemorates the 100th anniversary of the commencement of operations of the Czechoslovak National Bank, which was Czechoslovakia’s first independent central bank.

The banknote with the special overprint was produced in a print run of 200,000.

The commemorative banknote has the same dimensions, design and other specifications as the standard 5,000 Kč banknote of the 2023 series currently in circulation, and is legal tender in the Czech Republic. It differs from the standard banknote in its special overprint, created by applying a foil with nano-effects using hot-stamping technology.

The foil features a silver metallic design with iridescent colour effects that change depending on the viewing angle and the incidence of light. The main motif of the nanostructure is the CNB’s commemorative logo marking the 100th anniversary of the commencement of operations of the Czechoslovak National Bank, designed by Jan Solpera, an academic painter and the creator of the typeface used on Czech banknotes. The overprint also includes two portraits of the first Czechoslovak President, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, and a QR code linking to the CNB’s thematic web pages dedicated to this anniversary.
