Forget-me-not 1/2 oz Proof Silver Coin 2023

As the name suggests, forget-me-not means 'remember me' in the language of flowers. In addition to the other literal meanings of its common name, the fourth flower in the Language of Flowers series is also a symbol of deep love, remembrance, fidelity and constancy. What's more, forget-me-nots produce a beautiful foam of intense blue flowers every spring and are an especially welcome sight when nothing else is blooming. Similarly, in a number of European languages – in French it is called ne m'oubliez pas, in Spanish no me olvides and in Italian non ti scordar di me – the name forget-me-not comes from folk tales, the most notable of which is the German legend of a knight who swam across a river to bring his true love blue flowers growing on the opposite bank. Before drowning, while swimming back, with the flowers in his hand, he threw them to his beloved crying 'Vergissmeinnicht', which translates to forget-me-not.
Giving forget-me-nots at the beginning of an illicit love affair can be a discreet way to express the need for trust and intimacy. Although passionate and romantic love are important elements of their meaning, forget-me-nots can also signify deep friendship and family love. In addition, forget-me-nots can be used to express that the bonds of true love transcend time and space and will continue to exist despite physical separation and even death. The reverse of the coin features impressions of three actual forget-me-nots in bloom alongside a decorative side image of the forget-me-nots, which is stylishly printed in color. The obverse depicts a young woman with flowers in her long hair. In the background, a white silhouette of a head in profile is framed by a partially visible clock face, which refers to the passage of time. Unlike many other symbolic meanings associated with flowers, forget-me-nots have endured – more so as the timeless love and constancy they convey.
