The Perth Mint began refining gold and minting coins on 20 June 1899 at the height of the Western Australian gold rush. Over the next three decades, it minted 106 million sovereigns. It then went on to mint a vast number of Australian circulation coins between 1940 and 1984. With an excellent reputation for quality, craftsmanship and efficiency, the Perth Mint returned to its original purpose as a producer of fine gold, silver and platinum coins in 1986. Today, it is renowned for designing and producing some of the world's most sought-after gold, silver and platinum investment coins. To mark its 125th anniversary, it minted a coin that depicts a kangaroo, kookaburra and koala artistically arranged within a representation of silver wattle, Australia's national floral emblem. The inscription “1899 THE PERTH MINT 2024” appears in a scroll at the base of the design. The mint mark “P125” and the coin’s weight, fineness and year are also included.
The obverse of the coin features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Dan Thorne and the monetary denomination "1 DOLLAR", the weight and fineness "1oz 9999 SILVER" and the country of origin "AUSTRALIA". The coin has a very limited mintage of 7,500 pieces and comes in a case.
