Gold coin 5000 CZK Zvíkov Castle 2018 Proof

On May 29, 2018, the Czech National Bank is issuing the fifth gold coin from the Castles series. Its theme is Zvíkov Castle. The coin is minted from 999.9 fine gold and is issued in two versions, regular and proof, which differ in the surface finish and edge design. In top-quality coins, the field of the coin is highly polished and the relief is matted, the edge is smooth. Regular-quality coins have a serrated edge. The diameter of the coin is 28 mm, the weight is 15.55 g and the thickness is 1.9 mm. When minting coins, deviations in diameter of 0.1 mm and in thickness of 0.15 mm are allowed. The weight is allowed to deviate upwards by 0.062 g and the gold content by 0.01%. The obverse of the coin is dominated by a fragment of the woodcut altar of the Lamentation of Christ, located in the Zvíkov Chapel of St. Wenceslas. In the upper part of the coin field there is a composition of heraldic animals from the large state emblem in shields. The mark of the Czech Mint, which is formed by a composition of the letters "Č" and "M", is placed at the bottom edge of the coin. On the reverse side of the coin, in the upper part of the coin field there is a composition of two early Gothic glazed tiles with a griffin and hunting scene motif. Between the tiles there is a shield with a swan motif, which was used by the lords of Švamberk. In the middle of the coin field there is a collage of 4 castle buildings, from left to right the Hlízová Tower, the Písecká Gate, the Hláska Tower and the Chapel of St. Wenceslas are depicted. To the left of the composition there is the text "HRAD" and to the right the text "ZVÍKOV". The year of minting "2018" is placed under the Písecká Gate. The initials of the coin's designer Luboš Charvát, which are formed by the connected letters "L" and "Ch", are located below the year of minting.
